The Shadow...

On February 2nd, good ol' "Phil" the ground hog in Punxsutawney, PA saw his shadow. Which means that we will have six more weeks of winter. As, I tried to explain the concept of the ground seeing his shadow to my 8 year old daughter and this yearly ritual we hear about every year...she thought the whole thing was (and I quote) ridiculously silly. You know, if you think about it...hiding from your own shadow. But, as I thought about that, a scripture came to my mind. And I thought of one shadow that I would gladly hide UNDER.
Psalm 17:8 says, "...hide me under the shadow of your wings." A baby chick flees for protection to the wings of its mother...but protection is not the only thing it seeks. There under the wings of its mother it will also find warmth and love. We can find these things and so much more in the shadow of the "wings" of the Almighty God. He provides protections along with love and warmth that can bring peace and comfort.
The ground hog may seek to hide from his shadow....but I want to hide UNDER the shadow of God.
