Happy Easter? No - Happy Empty Tomb Day!

We went to an Easter Drama at church last night. I think my favorite part was when Jesus rose from the dead. They way they portrayed it was exciting. Jesus defeated death and hell. The devil thought that Jesus was gone forever and never coming back. But, I would have loved to see him trembling when Jesus came out of that tomb! My kids like to say this way...the devil wanted to win...but Jesus defeated Him. Jesus won!

The song they played during this scene was inspiring.

Arise my love, arise my love
The grave no longer has a hold on You
No more death's sting, no more suffering
Arise, arise my love

Sin... where are your shackles?
Death...where is your sting?
Hell... has been defeated
The grave could not hold the King

Can you imagine what it would have been like? The earth trembles and then the tomb begins to shake...the stone begins to roll away from the tomb and light shines from the inside out brighter than you've ever seen. Then, in victory, Jesus steps out of the tomb. Death could not destroy him...the grave could not hold him...and the devil could not, nor will he EVER defeat Him! The tomb is EMPTY!

On Easter, there are the baskets, dyed eggs, candy rains, etc. But as Christians we remember the fact that he died for us and on the third day He rose from the dead. So, instead of Happy Easter...today I thought of it differently. Happy Empty Tomb Day! For it is because of that empty tomb that I have the hope and promise of new beginnings!
