Ephesians 1:17-19 (MSG), "But I do more than thank. I ask - ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory - to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for Christians, Oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him - endless energy, boundless strength!"
My mind has been focused lately on the calling God has on our lives. He calls each of us to a ministry. You may thing that when you think of the word"ministry" that being a preacher comes to mind. But, there are many types of ministry.
Romans 12:4-8 (NIRV)
4 Each of us has one body with many parts. And the parts do not all have the same purpose. 5 So also we are many persons. But in Christ we are one body. And each part of the body belongs to all the other parts. 6 We all have gifts. They differ in keeping with the grace that God has given each of us. Do you have the gift of prophecy? Then use it in keeping with the faith you have. 7 Is it your gift to serve? Then serve. Is it teaching? Then teach. 8 Is it telling others how they should live? Then tell them. Is it giving to those who are in need? Then give freely. Is it being a leader? Then work hard at it. Is it showing mercy? Then do it cheerfully.Ephesians 4:11-12 (NIRV)11 He is the One who gave some the gift to be apostles. He gave some the gift to be prophets. He gave some the gift of preaching the good news. And he gave some the gift to be pastors and teachers. 12 He did it so that they might prepare God's people to serve. If they do, the body of Christ will be built up.
Here's an example: The other day, I got a call from a friend of mine that had to have an unexpected surgery. She asked if I could watch her little boy for a few hours until her mother-in-law got off work. My daughter & I drove over to her mother-in-law's house to pick him. On the way, my daughter made a little card for her with her crayons to give to her when we got there. I asked my daughter if she realized that what she was doing was a ministry. She was in awe when she realized that God was using her to be an encourager and serve someone else. We need to strife to remain focused and our minds clear. So that we can work effectively in what he has called us to do. If you think about it, living a Christ-centered life is glorious in many ways. We have access to His great & mighty power. The same power that healed the sick, raised the dead and resurrected Him from the grave. This coming weekend is Easter weekend. The weekend in the year we talk a lot about His death on the cross and Him resurrecting from the grave. What about allowing Him to use that same resurrecting power to help you stay focused and clear minded on what He has called you to do. Step out of that little box you hide in and into the world full of people that really need you to show them who He is and what He can do for their lives. Yes, you may have made mistakes in you past regarding your ministry...but we are still human and are subject to making mistakes. God in His mercy and grace is calling to take your ministry a step higher in Him. ♥
