Calluses can be bothersome. A callus usually forms around a wound or it is the thickened part of the skin caused by pressing or rubbing. But a callused heart can be more bothersome in the long run than a little callus on your hand or foot. It will effect you spiritually and eventually every other area in your life. How does a heart become callused? A callused heart can start out as a wounded heart. And then the constant remember of what caused that wound can cause the heart to become hardened. A hardened heart allows our love to grow cold. With a hardened heart it is difficult to love like Jesus commanded us to love. These thoughts were sparked from a song I heard this morning, sung by the group Petra:
"Don't let your heart be hardened. Don't let your love grow cold. May it always be so childlike. May it never grow too old. Don't let your heart be hardened. May you always know the cure. Keep it broken before Jesus keep it thankful, meek, and pure. May it always feel compassion. May it be as one with God. May it never be contrary. May it never be at odds. May it always be forgiving. May it never know conceit. May it always be encouraged. May it never know defeat"
But, I know the cure for that wounded heart...JESUS. Like the song sung by Wayne Watson says, "Jesus, He meets you where you are. Oh, Jesus, He heals your secret scars. All the love you're longing for is Jesus...the friend of a a wounded heart." HE is the only healing salve that can be put on a hardened and callused heart. Just calling out to Him...He WILL be there. How do I know this? Because He did it for me. Psalm 116:1-5 is a scripture that can sum up how I feel: "I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. THEN called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul." He IS faithful...He has never let me down...He has never turned His back on my...AND He is ALWAYS there!
