In church yesterday, Brother Wiser mentioned that there are two kinds of Christians in the church. There are the shooting stars and then there are the constant stars. He used this scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:58, Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Just for a little more understanding of the words used in this scripture...The Greek Lexicon defines steadfast as unmovable or sedentary (permanently attached). It defines unmovable as permanently persistent. The one word that sticks out to me in both these definitions is permanent. When something is permanent, it is constant, changeless, established and fixed.
First of all, in short, stars shine because they are very hot. And, in actuality, a "shooting star" is not even a star...it is just a rock or some dust falling into the earth's atmosphere and burning up. But, when you see a shooting star in the night sky, it shines bright for a moment then it fades. And,, a constant star is permanent, stationary or changeless. It continues to shine brightly.
I am one of those observant people. Sometimes I distinguish traits in people or circumstances that they are going through just by observing them. And, when you look around you, I am sure that you could see those that seem to shine bright for Him for a time but then it seems to fade. If fact, I know that I could be "guilty" of being that way at one point in my walk with God. But, then there are those that are constant. Their mind and heart is fixed on Him. They are the ones that continue working for Him no matter what comes their way. They are the ones that are overflowing with love, kindness and meekness. To be a "constant star" for Him, I have to develop a relationship with Him. It can't be a "I'll call you when I need you" relationship. But a there has to be a connection between Him and I. For example, if I want to listen to your radio but it is not plugged in, it just simply won't work...I have to plug it in to a power source first. That is how it is with my walk with God. If I want to be always abounding in the work of the Lord and overflowing with godly traits...I need to be plugged into the power source. There has to be a connection of prayer and reading the Word. The Word of God is like a road map to use on this path of life. Believe me, I know it can be easy to let the cares of this life distract a person from having that daily time in prayer and reading the Word. But, I need it if I want to shine bright for Him. I think that I would rather be something that is "on fire for God" that burns bright then to be just a falling rock that is consumed by the things around me.
