About Face...

Luke 15:10 says, "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth".  If you look in the verse before it refers to the story of the shepherd who will leave the 99 sheep to look for the one lost sheep.  And, about the woman who had ten silver coins.  But, when she lost one she lit a candle and "turned her house upside down" until she found it.  The rejoicing each of these had when they found that which was lost is compared to how the angels rejoice when a sinner repents.

To repent is like the military term "about face".  It is taking a sharp turn in the other direction.  It is taking a sharp turn in your attitude.  So often this verse is used in the context of a lost sinner repenting.  But, for a moment let's look at it in another point of view.  The verse does not say over one lost sinner that repenteth...but over one sinner that repenteth.  Romans 3:23 says that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God".  A sinner is one that sins.  So, I think it is safe to say that when we sin and go to God and repent, the angels begin to rejoice.  To put it into perspective:  Have you ever misplaced something and you search frantically through out the house until you find it.  But, when you finally find what you were looking for it such a relief.  Sometime you may even feel like doing a little rejoicing.  When a sinner repents the angels feel joy and happiness.

We all makes mistakes.  But it is so reassuring to know that we can go to Him and ask for forgiveness.  And when we do, there is a rejoicing in heaven every time.
