He Is My Sun And Shield

Psalm 84:11 says, "For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly."

This verse says that God is a sun and shield.  When we talk how something is something else, we mean is exists, endures, flourishes or prospers that object.  When this verse talks about God being a sun, it means that God is a shining light that illuminates our life.  and, just as the physical sun is the center of the universe, God needs to be the center of our lives.  Now, when this verse says that God is a shield it means that God is a protector.  He is our armor...our protection...our safeguard.  That is why we talk about praying on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).  This armor is needed to protect our spiritual lives from day to day.

The Lord will give grace and honor.  He will show us kindness and favor.  He will give us rewards and abundance.  The verse goes on to say that no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.  When we sincerely live for Him and do what is right according to His Word.  We will be blessed in abundance with good things.  Things that will brings us happiness, prosperity and good welfare is all areas of our life.

None of these things will be withheld from us when we walk uprightly.  Meaning we must be completely dedicated to Him, wholly committed to His work  and entirely in accord with His Word and be spiritually healthy by continuing in prayer and reading the Word.  The rewards that comes our way when we live for Him far outweigh the alternative lifestyles the world has to offer.  They do not offer the peace, joy and happiness that God Almighty does.  I would much rather life for Him with eternal happiness in view than enjoy the pleasures of sin in this world for only a season. 

I am SO thankful for HIS Word that leads and guides me each day...it helps me stay on the right path...and it helps correct me when I am heading in the wrong direction.  HIS Word...the Word that is inspired by Him and breathed from His mouth...is truly a light unto my path.  When I read it I can feel a shield around me.  He IS my sun and my shield.  My life would not be the same without Him.
