He ALONE Is Worthy!

“I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” ~ Isaiah 42:8

The Hebrew Lexicon defines Lord as "Jehovah = The Existing One; the proper name of the one true God"  In this verse He is saying...I am the Existing One, I am the one true God.  That is my name...my reputation, my authority, my trademark.  Think about it, when you hear someone say Lord or Jehovah, you think of all the power, authority and glory associated with that name.

The next part of that verse says, "my glory will I not give to another".  This means His glory, honor, dignity, abundance, and splendor He will not give to another.  I like how The Message translation puts it..."I don't franchise my glory".  The Godhead is not made up of a "franchise" of three who work together as a team to be God.  There is only ONE God and all the glory, honor and power belongs to Him and Him alone.

The last part of this verse says, "neither my praise to graven images". The praises belong to Him, not some graven image.  The American Heritage Dictionary defines a graven image as a "idol or fetish carved into wood or stone".  You know, if we say something is "carved in stone" we mean it has permanent effect on something or someone.  If we have something or even someone that has taken a more permanent place in our hearts than Him, it can become an idol or a fetish (fixation).  And when we begin to adore, cheer, commend and magnify that person or thing more than we do God, we are heading down the wrong pathway.  Eventually, if allowed, that person or thing could replace God in our hearts all together.   We need to make sure that He,Jehovah, has the most prominent place in our lives and hearts.  For He is the ONLY one worthy of ALL the praise, glory and honor.

If you sit back and think about it, there is no person or thing in this world that can be everything we need all in one.  He is our savior, our healer, our redeemer, our preserver, our guidance...and so much more.  ALL things are possible with Him.  Why look to the things and people of this world to satisfy when HE is the only one who can take care that.  Yes, He alone is definitely worthy of ALL praise, glory and honor that we could possible give.
