Reflection 2007...As I think back over last year, I wonder if I was a good reflection of Jesus. I am sure I can think of many instances when I could have done better. So, in 2008 I want to be a better reflector. I would say that could be my "New Year's resolution". But, I think resolutions are just made to be broken. Year after year we make "resolutions" and by January 15th we have already abandoned our goals. Sure, I would like to get back into my "pre-children" shape, I would like to study, pray and read the Word of God more and I would like to become the best Wife, Mother and Friend I can possibly become...But above all of that, I want to be in the will of God and reflect Him more than ever. I want Him to use me to encourage others, as I feel He has called me to do.
Speaking of resolutions, a friend of mine said that she was making New Year's Expectations. An expectation is something that you are looking for or anticipating. Over and over in the Bible we read of those that came to Jesus expecting to be healed, delivered and saved. In a previous post I titled it..."2008 Will Be Great!" Yes, I am sure this year will have it ups and downs. But it will be remarkable. When something is remarkable, it is not ordinary and it attracts attention. We serve an extraordinary God...So when He is involved things move from being ordinary to extraordinary. He has done many great things in years past and I am expecting Him to do GREAT & MIGHTY things this year.
My prayer this New Year's is that God helps me to become a better reflector this year...one that is polished to reflect Him and His greatness. To polish means: to make smooth and glossy usually by friction. So, to become polished I will have to face some friction. But, I can face those times knowing that I have Jesus on my side.
Here is the lyrics to a song that sums up that last line.
Sometimes when the day looks dark and the storms come rolling in. people start to fall apart saying life's to much for them. I can take it's best and worst I don't need to hide. 'Cause i know I have Jesus on my side.
I have Jesus on my side. I have Jesus on my side. The world can be confusing but I'm not losing sight. 'Cause I know I have Jesus on my side.
I thank Him for the trials. I thank Him for relief. But, through it all I know that I'll become more complete. I've come to love Him more and to have abundant life. 'Cause I know I have Jesus on my side.
Sometimes when the day gets tough I want to turn my back and run. But I need to stay and show the love you gave to us. So set me, like a flint, against the world and make me face the fight. 'Cause i know I have Jesus on my side.
