Proverbs 3:3-4 says, "Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man". In the Hebrew Mercy and truth is defined as: goodness, kindness, faithfulness, firmness, sureness, reliability and stability. These are things we should not allow them to depart from our lives. Instead, we should bind them around our neck and write them on the tables of our heart. Bind/neck and write/heart, it is an outward adorning and an inward governing. In Matthew 5:16 it says, "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven". When we allow mercy and truth to governing our heart, it will be visible on the outside. It will affect how we act, think, speak and dress.
As an extra little "bonus" I will add that in I Timothy 2:9-10 it says, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety: not with broided hair or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works". I believe that this ties into Proverbs 3:3-4. When we allow godly attributes to govern our heart, modesty will not be a problem whatsoever. We should live our lives in such a way that is becoming of women professing to be godly.
This brings me to 1 Peter 1:15, "But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation". The word conversation in this verse is not just describing our speech, but our thinking, actions and attire. What we allow to govern our heart will manifest itself outwardly. So when we allow godly attributes to govern our heart, we will shine before others. They will see our good works and begin to glorify God.
My prayer today is for the Lord to help me to take godly attributes and bind them around my neck and write them on the tables of my heart so that I can make a difference in my world and shine brightly for HIS glory! Make I ever strive to be holy in ALL everything that I do so that I may be like Him.
