Sands Through The Hourglass or Coffee Beans In the Grinder?

"Like sands through the hourglass...so are the days of our lives". The infamous quote from the daytime soap opera, "Days Of Our Lives". What a profound thought. Of course, most of us would more than likely say..."Like coffee beans in the grinder...so are the mornings of my life". Aah...The aroma of freshly coffee. It awakens the senses. If coffee could speak it would say..."Time to wake up sleepyhead. Time to start a brand new day."

Speaking of a new day, It seems like the days have passed by so quickly. When I logged into my computer this morning, I realized it had been several days since I had been "blogging". Blogging...just the word makes it sound like a sport! "Yep! I went blogging today...had a grand ol' time!" Anyways, I thought I would sit down and fill you in on the juicy and not-so-juicy highlights of my life over the past few days.

Friday night we went to a birthday party at Celebration Park in Allen. It is about a 7 minute drive up the road from our house. The kids had a blast playing. My how playground equipment has changed since I was a kid. Growing up, it was just the basics...a see-saw, a couple of slides, merry-go-round, monkey bars and several swings at Valley City City Park. Now, they have the colorful playground equipment that is like a child's paradise for playtime. The park even had a mini-water park. It was a fun time for us all.

Saturday, Jack had plans to go play Paintball with some guys from church. It was the adults against the youth. He had purchased a paintball gun and accessories and had yet to test it as of Saturday morning. So, he took it outside the back door and fired a few paintballs into the creek. When he fired that gun, the look on his face was priceless. I wish I had a camera at the time to take a picture. The look on his face was truely the perfect picture of a little boy with a new fasinating toy! And, he siad, "Did you see that!". My thoughts at the time were, "Now maybe this will satisfy his desire to go back into the military". Sure enough, when he arrived back home later that day, he told me that it brought back memories of his training he had when he was in the military. He had a blast. He is already planning with the guys to go again sometime. I have heard that now-a-days the miliitary uses paintball guns in training for battle. See! Now he can have his "military training" and be close to home at the same time! Now, I like THAT idea.

Saturday morning my mother-in-law called to see if I wanted to meet them and my sister-in-law and her kids at a fun park with a mini-water park. It was none other that Celebration park. My kids were kind of in a down mood that morning since they had realized that they could not go paintballing with Daddy. So, going to the park again was a great idea. Only this time, I brought an extra set of clothes and let them play in the showers and sprinklers in the water park with their cousins. After we had spent a couple of hours there, I changed their clothes into dry ones and we headed to Wal-mart. By the time we got back home, I noticed I had a "nice" little sunburn on my arms. I do not think I had ever been sunburned that bad. It still is a little sore if I scratch it.

Sunday I begin to prepare my husband's work things for this week. He has to be in San Antonio this week for a few days. I am hoping that he will be back Thursday. But, Sunday, I woke up feeling "yucky" and had a slight headache throughout the day. We went to church Sunday morning and I was looking forward to choir practice and singing in the Sunday Night service. But, by the afternoon, I felt even worse. Before he left for out-of-town, Jack had to mow the yard. That takes a couple of hours because of its size. The grass was already getting a little beyond the point of being too tall. With all the rain we have had, the yard was still a little soggy. But, he went out to his parents and got the riding lawn mower and mowed. Which I am thankful for because it rained again on Monday.

Now, I have been thankful for all the rain we have received. Lake Lavon, where our local water supply comes from, is finally over the necessary water level. But, the downpour we received Monday afternoon brought an unpleasant surprise up from the creek up to our patio. A snake! I am not sure what kind it was...but I do know this...it was ugly! My son is the one who spotted it and from that point on, Kalynn freaked out. Seeing a snake at the zoo or the pet store is one thing. But in my back yard! At my back door! My fear was that it would get into the garage and then into the house. So armed with a shovel I headed out to the garage. And at the top of my lungs I proclaimed..."Snake! In the name of JESUS stay out of and away from this house!" My father-in-law came by about an hour later to look around the outside of the house and in the garage for it. We never have seen it again. I keep telling myself and the kids just to keep trusting that Jesus and his angels are making sure it stays away from the house.

Well, I guess that concludes my adventures over the past few days. Nothing really excited has been happening today. But, we did take a trip to the feed store down the road for some supplies. They had little bunnies. When we walked up to the cage, the hopped over to us and reached up to be petted. They were SO cute. I think we will just kick back and relax the rest of today...and now, I think I am going to go grind up some Starbucks Coffee Beans and have a nice cup of coffee.
