A Cup Of Coffee With Jesus by Matt Maddix

-A blog entry by Evangelist Matt Maddix

Last week, my son Caleb and I had the opportunity to enjoy a game of tic-tac-toe and an M&M milkshake from Steak N' Shake together; we had so much fun that we didn't notice anyone else in the restaurant! Caleb is full of life and energy - and he loves to whip me at tic-tac-toe. The person who invented the game must have been a true genius!

Earlier, when we'd arrived at the restaurant, he begged me not to bring my cell phone along so that we could have what he calls "Daddy only time" - believe me, I don't argue! It makes me want to wrap him in a hug when he wants to spend quality time with me! Caleb had my undivided attention, until I noticed Jesus was sitting in a nearby booth, drinking coffee at Steak N' Shake. As we walked to the car, my heart was shattered into a thousand pieces and tears rolled down my face as I knelt down to my little boy and asked him if he'd like to meet Jesus and do something nice for Him. Excited and curious, Caleb followed me back into the restaurant.

Matthew 25:40
40 And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'

Caleb and I sat down to talk with "Jesus", a homeless man who looked sad and lonely. We watched him drink his coffee and listened to his story. Caleb gave him a $20 bill, a moment that I pray he will remember forever.

Later, as we snuggled into bed and said our little prayers, Caleb prayed for the countless thousands of people just like the man we met in the restaurant, asking God to "please help all the homeless people find homes." I have a special burden in my heart for the homeless; my heart bleeds and breaks for these precious people who spend every night huddled in the streets. One of the homeless men who frequently visits our church has asked me many times if I could spare an extra blanket. Our church family and I had created a tradition of handing out sleeping bags to the homeless each week, but had run out of spare sleeping bags. As I prepared to leave for church one evening, I felt an urge to give the man my favorite blanket- and it truly was my favorite blanket! As I passed the blanket along to that precious man and hugged him goodbye, Jesus said to me "Thank you, son, for giving me your blanket tonight. I'll never forget it."

Remember, the next time you see a hurting, lonely, and less fortunate person, treat them like you would treat Jesus Christ. He said 'when you do it to the least of these, you do it to Me."
