Burning Calories...Laughing

I went to the church last night for our monthly WOW (Women Of Worth) meeting. I learned something new...laughing for 10 minutes will burn up to 40 calories! And with all the laughing I did last night, I am positive I burned at least 200 calories! It was a blast.
A scripture that comes to my mind is Proverbs 17:22, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones". Isn't that the truth! Scientific studies proves that laughter is literally good for your cardiovasular health. Not only that, laughter...decreases stress hormones, boosts the immune system, relaxes the muscles, can prevent hypertension, benefits your lungs and helps to relieve pain. I am sure the list can go on and on. But it all points back to the fact that the Word of God is true. Proverbs 17:22 was written long before the scientists figured it out.
In the fast paced world we live in, sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in the stresses of everyday life and motherhood that laughing seems nonexistent. It is so refreshing to just stop and take a moment to relax and find the humor in the things around you. I was reminded last night just how important it is to laugh. It is not that I do not laugh, but maybe I need to laugh more and stress less.
Here are some quotes on the subject of laughter:
"The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter" - Mark Twain
"A laugh is a smile that bursts" - Mary H. Waldrip
"An optimist laughs to forget, a pessimist forgets to laugh" - Author Unknown
"Laughter is the shock absorber that eases the blows of life" - Author Unknown
