Running The Race

Good Morning! Of course, I was not that cheerful at 6:30am. But, now that I am "back on track" I thought I should get up and resume my daily ritual of exercise this morning. So, as I was walking/running on my trusty treadmill, I begin to think of what it must be like to run a race. Of course one has to prepare before the big race, but the persistence that is needed to keep a steady pace and not give up during the race is important also. As I was trying to keep up a steady pace this morning, I thought "I have to keep going" (even though my body was screaming at me to stop and take a break). Then a scripture came to my mind:
Hebrews 12:1-3 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds."
So, as I kept the pace up on my treadmill this morning, I begin to ponder...who am I running for? For myself that I may finish in victory? Philippians 3:14 says "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus". As I press forward in this race I must remember that I am not running just for myself. I must keep running for my children and for my husband. In Proverbs 31:11, 27 & 28 says this about a virtuous woman (a woman who keeps running the race with persistence), "The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."
In this life, there may be times that keeping up a steady pace is a little more difficult for one reason or another. It is during those difficult times that I quote a promise that helps me keep pressing forward: Isaiah 41:10 "Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you and uphold you with my righteous right hand".
I am so thankful for the little thoughts and reminders that the Lord gives me throughout my day. It keeps me running a steady pace not only so that I may win in victory, but so that my family may be victorious also. Titus 2:5 says that women are to be keepers at home. A keeper is simply one who keeps (to maintain in a good, fitting, or orderly condition). Not only does this pertain to the home but to be faithful in tending to the family. There is a lot of responsiblity put on the shoulders of a wife and mother. But, it is worth running at a steady pace to see my family happy and living for God.

I can really relate to this today. First of all, I am NOT a morning person! Second, I recently began walking to help shed some of this winter coat I have accumulated! I even invested in some "real running shoes" because I am serious about it! In reality, I have decided to do a better job investing in myself, my family, and my friends. And so far, it has been rewarding, even on the days when I don't feel up to investing myself in anyone or anything! But you are right, it is so important to keep the pace! Thanks for sharing!!
