"Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." - Colossians 3:2, (NAS). This scripture really sums up my thoughts over the last few days. I have had such a desire to pray more, read/study the Word more, sing and praise Him more and just be more focused on Him.
Another scriptures that has been on my mind is Romans 12: (NAS), "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship." The word "urge" in this verse refers to an appealing call to do what he is asking. What is it that he is asking of me? It is to offer myself up to God as a living and holy sacrifice, that is acceptable. Why? Because that is my reasonable serve, as the King James Version puts it. But, what does all that mean?
Living and Holy. When something is living, it is full of life. It is active and functioning. And, to be holy is to be chaste, modest and pure in heart and free from carnality. So, to me, this means that I need to get involved in working for the Lord, being active and functioning. I need to get involved and be active in praise & worship. And, it means that I need to live a life that is chaste or pure in thought and actions. I need to strive to be modest or pure in behavior and dress. And, I need to free from carnality or free from indulging in fleshly pleasures...which, in my opinion can cover a wide spectrum of things.
Acceptable to God. 1 Peter 1:15 instructs us "to be ye holy in all manner of conversation." The word "conversation" means "manner of life, conduct, behavior, deportment". I will be pleasing and acceptable unto God when everything that I say and do is pure and free from carnality.
Spiritual service of worship. I found it interesting what the Greek Lexicon said about "spiritual service" in this verse: " pertaining to speech or speaking; pertaining to the reason or logic; spiritual, pertaining to the soul". I need to worship God not only with my voice but with the way I think!
I just love how the Word of God flows together. And, I love how all the scriptures can be used to help us to be sufficiently prepared for the situations we face. Like it says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NAS), "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." My deepest desire is it continually keep striving to be all that I can be for God. I want my life to be active, functioning, holy and acceptable to HIM! ♥
