The Lord woke me up bright and early this morning before my alarm even went off. And, after I had my prayer time and reading time, I was checking my email and this scripture was in my inbox. Psalm 103:2-5 (KJV), "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's." I just love the gentle reminders God send me to reassure me that He is there for anything that I need.
Bless the Lord, O my soul and for not all His benefits. I want to make sure that I take time out daily to praise Him from the depths of my soul. And, I do not want to forget, ignore or cease to care about the blessings He sends my way every day. He has dealt bountifully with me and I want to respond by praising Him with everything that is within me.
He forgives and pardons all my iniquities. The Hebrew Lexicon define iniquities as "perversity, depravity, iniquity, guilt or punishment of iniquity" Perversity is bring turned away from what is right, good or moral. Depravity is a corrupt act or practice. Guilt is a feeling of responsibility of wrongdoing. When I come to Him with a repentant heart, He will forgive and pardon me from ALL my iniquities.
He heals all my diseases. This is something that the Lord spoke to me about not too long ago. He reminded me that He is the God that heals me. There is nothing that is too small or too big for Him to handle. I want to point out that a disease is ANYTHING that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by certain signs and symptoms. This, I believe, covers not just what ails my body, but what ails my mind, heart and soul.
He redeems my life from destruction. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines redeem as follows: to free from captivity or punishment by paying a price. The Hebrew Lexicon defines destruction as follows: pit, destruction, grave, pit(of Hell); to sink down, be bowed down, of depression of the mind. He frees my life from being held captive by the grip of satan, depression and oppression. I do not have to pay the price, He already paid it for me.
He crowns me with lovingkindness and tender mercies. The word "crowns" means to surround, according to the Hebrew Lexicon. He surrounds me with goodness, kindness, faithfulness and also with compassion and a deep unfathomable love.
He satisfies my mouth with good things so that my youth is renewed like the eagle's. He will satisfy my soul with good things. Things that are pleasant, excellent in nature, brings prosperity, brings happiness and fitting to my needs. He does this to help me be renewed in strength. To give me a new life and fresh dose of joy.
When I think of these verses in this way, it just helps me to realize how blessed I am to be serving such a great & mighty God. I have been blessed in many way. And, I do not want to cease giving Him praise for all of them. Like the Psalmist said, "Let everything that hath breath, praise ye the Lord." As long as I have breath in my lungs, I want to praise Him. ♥
