Matthew 5:8 (MSG) “"You're blessed when you get your inside world - your mind and heart - put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.” The KJV says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
Have you ever went through I time in your life when it seems that no matter where you looked, God didn’t seem to be anywhere. And, if you were to see with “spiritual eyes”, I am sure that you would find that your heart was not right in one area or another. If you do not get into the routine for maintaining your spiritual walk with God, your heart can become distracted. Prayer and Bible reading/studying needs to be a part of your daily routine. Without it, your heart becomes like a room in a house that no one has been in for a long time. If you were to choose one room in your house and didn’t go in it for a long time, when you finally did enter into it it would be dusty and possibly covered in cobwebs. When we let our hearts to become distracted for a long period of time, “dust” and cobwebs” clutter it up. It is then that we need God to come in and clean house. Dusting and doing some serious “Spring Cleaning”. And, when you allow Him to clean it up, you will be able to see Him more clearly.
I read this quote by Audrey Hepburn that I thought was interesting: “For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share you food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. For poise, work with the knowledge you'll never walk alone.” It really has some things to say when you look at it and compare it to how we need to be in our walk with God. Proverbs 31:10 says that a woman of noble character is more valuable than rubies. Every woman seeks to be more beautiful in one way or another. But, if you seek to have a noble and beautiful character, you will shine with a beauty from the inside to the outside. Words of kindness, seeing the good in people, sharing food with the hungry and taking quality time out for your children is also a way to clean up your heart. Especially if your practice these things on a daily basis.
I want to see God in the outside world. I do not want my heart to get so cluttered up with the dust and cobwebs that it keeps me from being what I need to be for Him. I want to be pure in heart. And, above all, I want to teach my children the same principles so that they in turn can have pure hearts and make a difference in someone’s life. And, in doing so, we are letting our light shine before others so that they may see the good things He has done for us and glorify Him also. Isn’t that what it is all about? Being a witness of His grace and goodness. My prayer today is that God will do some “Spring cleaning” in my heart and help me to have a pure heart. And, that He will help me to lead and guide my children in that way that they should go…
