Words of my mouth and thoughts of my heart…

Psalm 19:14 (BBE), “Let the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing in your eyes, O Lord, my strength and my salvation.”

What a great scripture to start out a day.  Lord, help the words that come out of my mouth and the thoughts that enter my mind be pleasing to you!  Reading that reminds me of the scripture that my kiddos have been trying hard to memorize.

Philippians 4:8 (KJV), “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”   I have been trying to stress the importance of this to my kiddos.  And then a couple of weeks ago, my daughter came out of Sunday School and was so excited that they were learning this verse.  Then it excited me to hear her quote it.  Because I know that if she is hiding those things in her heart, that it will help her in the long run.

Unfortunately, sometimes as we grown up into adults, we forget that the thoughts we think will usually be formed into words.  And, when we allow frustrations and anger build up and process spiritually unhealthy thoughts, those thoughts come out and can cause more damage than we realize.  We are all guilty of this at some point in our lives.  I guess that is why it is so important to remember these scriptures and let them encourage us to think on those things so that the words of our mouth and the thoughts of our hearts can be pleasing to Him.

1 Peter 10:15-16 (KJV) says, “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written , Be ye holy; for I am holy.”  The word conversation is translated to mean “manner of life, conduct and behavior”.  That pretty much covers every area of our lives.  But, it starts in the heart.  Because what we allow to affect our heart with affect every area of our life.

Lord, may we strive to watch our words and thoughts.  Help us to continually seek to please you in all that we do.
