I Am His Traveling Companion…

Psalm 23 is the well known Psalm that we all have heard and probably can quote.  In verse 3, it says that “he leadeth me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake”.  If you think about it, to lead us, he has to be right there with us.  He is leading us and always within our sights.  That is unless we get distracted and loose sight of Him.  But, in that case, all we need to do is call out to Him and He will be right there to continue to lead us on down the path.  He is Jehovah-Shammah, the God who is always there.

Psalm 84:11 (MSG) says, “All sunshine and sovereign is God, generous in gifts and glory. He doesn't scrimp with his traveling companions.”  When one is described as “sunshine” that means that person radiates warmth, cheer and happiness.  And, when the verse talk about God being sovereign it is describing Him as  excellent, superior and first-class.  God is all this and more.  He definitely radiates warmth, cheer and happiness.  And, He IS superior to all else (Matthew 28:18 says that ALL power is given unto Him).  He is generous in pouring out abundant showers of blessings to those that walk uprightly.

As we travel down the path of life, God should always be in the driver’s seat.  Remember, we are HIS traveling companion, not the other way around.  Those that have God as their passenger, only refer to Him on a “as needed” basis.  But those that have God in the driver’s seat of their lives trust Him to have control and guide them in the right direction.

As I start another week, I want to remember that I am HIS traveling companion.  And that I need to let Him have control and lead me in the paths of righteousness.  If I do so, I am promised showers of blessings and so much more.  He is a GREAT God and greatly to be praised!
