There is scripture that came to mind when I was reading some topics posted on a Group on MySpace. I know that there have probably been times when something that I have said in the past may have not been as hospitable as it should have been. After all, I am human...I make mistakes. But it is the actions that I take to correct those mistakes that make a difference. I try to keep a mind-set of being hospitable. I want more than anything to make a difference in the lives around me by being what God wants me to be...by reverberating HIM.
1 Peter 4:9 says "Use hospitality one to another without grudging." Hospitality is showing hospitable treatment, reception, or disposition. Being hospitable is showing a natural kindness and courtesy especially in social situations. The verse doesn't say to pick and choose who we are hospitable to...it doesn't say to judge who is worthy of this treatment and who is not. It says to use hospitality....apply it, allow it to help. The verse also says without grudging. This means to set aside your own will and not discontently complain, mutter or murmer about something or someone you disagree with.
Yes there will be people who try to detour you by the things that they say. But, what does Matthew 5:39 say? "But whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also". People ridiculed and mistreated Jesus, but he still loved them. Love is an action word...there has to be some action on our part to make it work.
1 Peter 1:15 says, "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation". The word conversation does not just mean the way we speak, but it also includes our attitudes and behavior. Everything about us should reverberate Jesus.
I guess the question I want to pose is...How can one be a "true" Christian if he/she is not showing hospitality one to another? We must take action...to love as HE loved...to use hospitality to one another... to reverberate JESUS!
