Learning Takes A Lifetime

Psalm 119:73  "Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands."

His hands so careful and lovingly formed each of us.  He fashioned us.  I found it interesting to read that the word "fashioned" in the Hebrew means to be firm, be stable and be established.  Just as the potter molds the clay, His desire is to fashion us into a useful vessel.  He desires for us to be firm, stable and established.

Understanding to learn: It is like a chain reaction...Proverbs 3:5 says to "trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding".   The more you trust in Him, the more you will begin to lean on Him and not your understanding.  You will begin to understand His ways and commandments. When you begin to understand His ways and commandments, then you begin to learn or train in His commandments.  When you train to do something, your goal is to do that task to the best of your ability.  That is the outlook we should have on living for God and learning His commandments.

In John 14:15, Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments".  1 John 5:3 states that this love for God, to keep His commandments.  It also says that His commandments are not grievous.  His commandments will not weigh us down; they are not burdensome.  His commandments are not violent, cruel or unsparing.  On the contrary, He has commandments and boundaries because of the love He has for us.  Just as parents, we have boundaries for our children, so that they can be safe and grow up to be responsible adults.  Learning His commandments does take a lifetime.  It is a continual training process.  In Matthew 5:48 it says to be perfect as He is perfect.  To be complete and without fault or flaw will take us a lifetime.  But that should be our goal.  Press toward that goal...that higher calling in Him!
