Love Is Not A Facade

I received the following scripture in my email this morning and thought I would share my thoughts on it. “Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” (Romans 12:9-10)

Simply put...do not hide under a facade. Do not pretend to care and love others, truly do learn the love them as Jesus loved. Do not hate others...develop an extreme disgust for the evil and sin that destroys lives. And, hold on to that which is good for dear life. So tightly that nothing can pry those attributes from your life. Be kindly affectionate...inclined to love one another with love like you would have for your “blood brother or sister”. Have a pure sense of respect for one another. Like it says in Luke 6:31…”Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. We each desire to be loved, respected and appreciated...We should practice by doing the same for others. Luke 6:38 says to give, and it shall come back to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. The same measure that you show love, respect and appreciation to others, God will turn around and send the same blessings your way.

The good ol' Merriam-Webster dictionary mentions that 'dissimulation' is the pretending of having virtues, principles, or beliefs that one in fact does not have. There is nothing more disheartening than to find out that someone you trusted or thought was a friend had a facade love towards you or another. I know we are human, and human emotions can be like the Dallas High Five at rush hour...intertwined and seemingly all in a jumbled mess. But, I believe we must continually keep our spirits in check. We must get into the habit of loving one another. Tear down the wall of facade love in our minds and hearts. Love should be a facade...it should be genuine and true!
