According to 123Greetings.com, today is Poetry Day. Poetry has always been something that I love to read and write. I even took a poetry class in High School. I absolutely loved the class and the teacher made it so much fun. But, in "celebration" of Poetry day, I thought I would share a few poems.
The Purple Cow
by Gelette Burgess
I never saw a purple cow.
I never hope to see one.
I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see one than be one!
Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep
Stopping To Think Of Jesus
by Rebekah Maloy
(This is a parody of the above Robert Frost poem that I wrote in 9th grade.)
Whose world this is I think I know.
His house is in the heavens, though;
He can see me at the moment
Watching His beautiful creation.
The small birds watch me as they fly by
While I admire things trying not to cry
Tears of joy flow from my eyes
As I think of my dear Lord.
Knowing He cared so very much
That He died for me.
I can picture it in my mind
Of how He suffered and died.
My Lord is loving, sweet and kind.
And He is not hard to find.
All I have to do is pray.
All I have to do is pray.
Devil, We're Still Here!
by Rebekah Maloy
(Brother Ricky Saulters preached a message with the same title in February 2004. We had been faced with difficult situations and his message inspired me to keep moving forward.)
On the edge of "Revival Town"
We saw the dust begin to stir
Lucifer stepped forth and said
"You are coming down"
With him he brought
Depression, Doubt and Disbelief
Disillusion and Disdain
Discord and Distraught
He thought he could deflate,
His goal was set
His men were in place
With us he would debate
But, all we did was speak
To the One we knew
Could remove all of these
"Jesus, it is you we seek!"
Then right before our eyes
The devil and his D's
Began to dissolve
"Victory!" was our cry
So, devil we want you to hear
With our voices
So loud and clear
"Devil, We're Still Here!"
One Little Note
by Rebekah Maloy
(I wrote this after I was inspired by sister Joy Haney's book "Living In A Miracle Level")
One little note.
In the concert of praise.
Yes, one little note.
Lord, my voice to you I raise.
Lord, help me to forgive,
To be joyful and thankful.
Everyday I live,
To exalt you, to be prayerful.
Yes, one little note
In the concert of praise.
One little note,
Lord, each day your anthem raise.
The orchestra is large.
For we each have a part.
Help us to take charge,
To praise you with all our heart.
