Letters From Home

Being Jack is former military, military related holiday stick out more than they did before I met him. Before we met, he was in Germany for 4 months for Desert Fox. And while we were dating there several times he had to go out on TDY trips. But with Memorial Day coming up, I tend to think of those who are overseas at war. I am sure that being gone for weeks and months can be tough. Of course some have access to email...then there is the ability to call home for some. But there is always the joy of getting a letter from home. I have heard of that some soldiers keep the letters in their helmets. Others keep them in a pocket. Unfortunately war has a way of distancing family and friends from one another. It is those letters from home that keep them going from day to day. So, this Memorial Day as you and your family are enjoying the time together, take the time to say a prayer for our U.S. Military and its leaders. We may not be able to write a letter and it get there in time for the holiday, but we can hold them up in prayer. And we know that prayer changes lives.

Speaking of letters from home, Saint Augustine once said, "The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home". What a refreshing thought. Anytime I need to hear from "home", I just pick up the Word of God and read.
Hebrews 4:12 says, "The Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart". The Word of God is alive, active and powerful. It cuts right to the heart and can comfort me, bind up my wounds, restore my joy and bring deliverance to my life. Any thought I think, any intent I have is discerned by the Word of God. It has the answer to any situation I encounter. Some may be skeptical and ask "how can a book do all that?". But it is the Author of the Word of God that makes the difference. In 2 Timothy 3:16 it says that "ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness". The Word of God is literally the words of God. It is useful for teaching, proving convictions, restoring me to an upright state and in training me in my strive for righteousness. So, the Word of God is more than just a book. It is a letter written for you and me from God Almighty.
I am so thankful for the Word of God...my Letters from home.
